roses.

I started this series of artworks with the goal to “use what you have”.

I wanted to recycle old materials and avoid spending money on new materials as a response to our “throw away” culture. I also wanted to explore 3 dimensional mediums in attempts to explore a creative medium AI cannot easily recreate, yet.

I built the pine frames out of 1"x 1" planks by hand and stretched raw canvas & wool fabrics as the base. The raw canvas has such a pleasant beige color on it’s own and allows you to see the loose weave of the textile itself- it’s so beautiful. Every time I gesso over raw canvas for other paintings, I wish I didn’t have to!

I had many gorgeous remnants of wool upholstery fabrics that are stand alone works of art on their own. In manipulating the thick wool fabric into hand sewn & sculpted roses, the series “Roses” was born.
